Some of the Musics...
On the Tramp
Weren’t we the profligate pretenders
From some world unknowable
Weren’t we the comrades and invaders
Some two-bit players in the show
Weren’t we the everyday beginners
We would wander we would tramp
Impossibility believers
Turning from the cold and damp
PRE-CHORUS
And should we greet you
And play you a tune
Weave you a rune
And if there was a bottle
We’d have another song
CHORUS
And there, there in the light and the gladness
We’d stay, stay for awhile
A time when a small show of a kindness
Would bring, bring us a smile
If we’ve been cheated and were blinded
It makes no nevermind at all
It was there only to remind us
Of the rising and the fall
PRE-CHORUS & CHORUS
If we’ve been cheated and were blinded
It makes no nevermind at all
It was there only to remind us
Of the rising and the fall

Couldn't Be Too Soon
Photographs and airplanes have landed on the moon
And if I hear from you again it couldn’t be too soon
Were we here today, here today and gone
All and all and all and all you always take too long
To be so very clever with imaginary powers
while mastering the universe protected in your tower
If it get’s you far, get’s you far away
Don’t get lost and don’t get found, don’t let it get you down
CHORUS
Don’t let it get you down
Don’t let it get you down (Don’t let it, regret it)
Don’t let it get you down
Don’t let it get you down
Sympathetic happenstances take you for a ride
While ordinary circumstance won’t keep you satisfied
With so very much, so much to do
And when enough should be enough
It’s not enough for you
Now you’re off in your kitchen putting icing on the cakes
I’m here with the funny papers trying to relate
We’re so wrong and right, wrong and right it’s true
I’ll no longer fuss and fight, could you no longer too?
CHORUS
Don’t let it get you down
Don’t let it get you down (Don’t let it, regret it)
Don’t let it get you down
Don’t let it get you down
Photographs and airplanes have landed on the moon
And if I hear from you again it couldn’t be too soon…
In the Deluge
When the storm came and the hard rain brought the levee down
There were acres of barleycorn and sorghum
Surrendered in the deluge, ravaged by the flood
Gone away, taken away
Look, now here comes the revenuer man
Telling us keep holding on the best we can
You’re represented, we’re with you one and all
‘Til your crops will once again be standing tall
On the highway there were phone poles where the road had been
Where our houses and barns had stood now water
From the high ground we all waited for that river to go down
Tears were shed, nothing was said
Revenuer what is it we can do
Is there nothing for able hands to help us through
We’ll work your programs work any way we can
So that no more hungry days ever come back again
When the daylight found our homes gone the sun did shine
On the roof tops, a cellar door floating by us
Underwater where the barley was waving from a dream
Tears were shed, nothing was said
Look, now here comes the revenuer man
Telling us keep holding on the best we can
You’re represented, we’re with you one and all
‘Til your crops will once again be standing tall
Alturasado y Compadre
I said Alturasado, this trail goes on too long
Running between this world and some old lost one
Do you think we got it wrong
We were headed for Las Cruces it was there we lost our way
A ghost people in ghost places
Where our spirits used to play
CHORUS
Not a word was ever spoken
Not a word could ever say
There was nothing left unbroken
Nothing in the way
We came upon an outpost so took them by surprise
Came away with two fresh horses and seven days supplies
Then we met up with an old man in the road
With the vision in his eyes
He said son don’t I know you, I don’t think so
But I was telling lies
Now moving in the half-light, the old man, says he sees me running free
And with sorrow overtaken, a woman
Knows the man I used to be
CHORUS
Not a word was ever spoken
Not a word could ever say
There was nothing left unbroken
Nothing in the way
Not halfway to Las Cruces we were slowly leaning west
With the vision in my right eye and the river on the left
Still we kept on riding we were nowhere to be found
And now this vision I can’t shake it
Or turn my horse around
CHORUS
Not a word was ever spoken
Not a word could ever say
There was nothing left unbroken
Nothing in the way
I said Alturasado, this trail goes on too long
Running between this world and some old lost one
Do you think we got it wrong
Arc of a Dream
A faint faraway long-ago feel
Of you getting one over on me
Still lingering on as if real
Like some kind of memory-free
When time it was we was so free
Somewhere along the arc of a dream
Knocked over from beginning to end
Trying to get it right or so it would seem
Time again to begin again
Comes the time the time to begin again
CHORUS
Now when you’re falling in the rolling clover
Or some such place to go
Over and over
Won’t you let me know you’ve not forgotten
I hope I’m finding you there
If only out of thin air
Once imagining a page in a book
Your words alive and painting your face
Turning the pages back anyhow you look
Another time and another place
In black and white we write in the single-space
CHORUS
Now when you’re falling in the rolling clover
Or some such place to go
Over and over
Won’t you let me know you’ve not forgotten
I hope I’m finding you there
If only out of thin air
A faint faraway long-ago feel
Of you getting one over on me
Still lingering on as if real
Like some kind of memory-free
When time it was we was so free

Firefly
Behold the firefly
How brightly does he fly
Why does he fly so high
Against a moon-black sky
Pre-Chorus
You know he’s busy flashing and a’blinking light for you
His meaning in a manner simply speaking, how do you do
Chorus
Turn your light on
Let it shine on now firefly
And before long
Love will call you by name
And though the night’s long
And all your hope gone now firefly
Keep your light on
Love is calling your name
The fabled firefly
Surveys and endless sky
Next time you see him fly
Don’t let him pass you by
Pre-Chorus
He never gives up trying, sending signals from above
He’s kinda, sorta hoping you return them with your love
Chorus
Turn your light on
Let it shine on now firefly
And before long
Love will call you by name
And though the night’s long
And all your hope gone now firefly
Keep your light on
Love is calling your name
Better Days
It’s a cryin’ shame my old horse pulled up lame
You know we tried so hard to save him
Didn’t have the heart to give in
Cut him loose, doc says it just ain’t no use
And now the fields are falling over
If it ain’t one thing it’s another
CHORUS
And they say these times are tough
Looks like there just ain’t near enough
Work for the daily bread
You could be hangin’
By a thead
The plowman’s field she refuses to yield
Didn’t wanna have to sell out
Couldn’t find another way out
Better days, I could use some these days
So why’d you run off with the good time
And leave me standing in the breadline
CHORUS
And they say these times are tough
Looks like there just ain’t near enough
Work for the daily bread
You could be hangin’
By a thead
